SpamAssassin

The UNDSMHS e-mail server is running software called "SpamAssassin", which attempts to identify incoming messages that are likely to be junk-mail. Each user will decide for themselves if they want to act on SpamAssassin's findings. If you do nothing, you'll receive your mail just as you did before we started running SpamAssassin.

If you want to use SpamAssassin, you'll have to setup a "rule" or a "filter" in your e-mail program to look for the information SpamAssassin adds to messages, and deal with the junk somehow. You could send messages flagged as spam straight to the trash, but SpamAssassin can make mistakes, so that's not really recommended.

What you'll probably want to do is create a folder called something like "Spam" or "Junk", and then setup your e-mail program to move possible spam to that folder. You would then look at that folder occasionally just to make sure there weren't any messages in there that you really wanted to see, before cleaning out the folder manually.

Here are some notes on how to setup e-mail programs to work with SpamAssassin. If you particular program isn't listed, the examples below may still give you a pretty good idea of what to look for in your program to setup a filter.
